RustyButTrusty on the Street – Dodge, Jaguar, Volvo, Opel, Chevrolet

August 28, 2014

Here’s another entry in the chronicling of interesting cars on the roads of the San Francisco Bay Area of California. And this is only what your faithful correspondent can capture on camera – for example, today there was a Rover P4 on the streets of San Francisco, and an Alfa Berlina on the streets of Berkeley/Oakland. To catch us up, check out this 1964 Dodge 880 sedan. The owner has done some cool modifications that really add to the allure of this car – a slightly lowered body with shiny but worn paint is offset by red reverse steel wheels with faux knockoffs. This picture doesn’t really do it justice – if you live in Oakland, keep an eye open for this example of “the most elegant automobile ever fashioned by Dodge” (says the brochure).

Happen-Stance – 1967 MG 1100

August 26, 2014

With all the effort “kids these days” are putting into stancing their cars (lowering on coil-overs, stretching too-small tires over too-wide wheels, and more), you’d think some would have figured out stance happens – nature is already doing the job for them. Cars with unusual suspensions like the Mercedes 300SEL 6.3, Citroen DS, and the ADO16 British Leyland products all have suspensions that, after 40-50 years, are prone to failure. This sets them down on their bump stops, giving them that cat-dragging-its-belly-on-the-ground look. Were they to pick up one of these cars, all they’d need to add is some wide tires on small diameter, deep-dish wheels with crazy camber and presto! For a halfway-done stance project, check out this 1967 MG 1100 for sale for $1500 in Lancaster, CA.

Madness – 1977 Lotus Eclat Trio

August 23, 2014

Every so often, you run across a person where you think, “if I weren’t married…” or “if I were young enough to be adopted…”. This might just be one of those cases – perhaps RustyButTrusty needs a poster child, or a mentor, because the seller of this feature is mad enough to qualify. He is selling not one, not two, but three!!! Lotus Elites in various states of disrepair. While we can’t endorse the disrepair, this fellow’s collection does bring out a tear of joy. Check out this trio of1977 Lotus Eclats for sale for $2350 each ($1800 for the parts car) in Milpitas, CA.
