Here’s another entry in the chronicling of interesting cars on the roads of the San Francisco Bay Area of California. And this is only what your faithful correspondent can capture on camera – for example, today there was a Rover P4 on the streets of San Francisco, and an Alfa Berlina on the streets of Berkeley/Oakland. To catch us up, check out this 1964 Dodge 880 sedan. The owner has done some cool modifications that really add to the allure of this car – a slightly lowered body with shiny but worn paint is offset by red reverse steel wheels with faux knockoffs. This picture doesn’t really do it justice – if you live in Oakland, keep an eye open for this example of “the most elegant automobile ever fashioned by Dodge” (says the brochure).

Noble Birth – 1972 Ford LTD Crown Victoria Country Squire
July 31, 2014What’s old is new again, and just as 1980s bright neon colors and skinny jeans are trendy, station wagons are regaining popularity from minivans. They’re dropping their stodgy image and re-emerging as family vehicles that, unlike minivans and SUVs, actually handle with most of the agility of their sedan and coupe siblings. If you want to revisit the first time station wagons were cool (actually, by 1972 they weren’t really cool anymore), you’ll have to pony up some decent dollars since the collector car crowd has taken notice of woodies and other period utilitarian vehicles. Check out this 1972 Ford LTD Crown Victoria Country Squire for sale for $3950 in Sacramento, CA.
German Bobcat – 1978 Ford Fiesta
July 21, 2014The Ford Fiesta (development code: Bobcat) went by largely unnoticed in the North American market – they had decent success until they were killed off to be replaced by the Escort, but ask most people now and they’ll think of the Festiva, or worse, the Aspire. Which is really not fair, since they were great little cars that were quite successful elsewhere. Light, front-wheel-drive, with strut suspension in the front, these are said to be fun to drive in spite of their low-powered engines. Check out this 1978 Ford Fiesta for sale for $850 in Port Orchard, WA.
