RustyButTrusty on the Street – Alfa, Mini, Mercedes, Volvo

July 19, 2014

Welcome back to RustyButTrusty on the Street, where we take a look at recent sightings of people using classic cars as they were originally intended. First up is the RustyButTrust 1977 Alfa Romeo Spider, which was a surprise participant in the 2014 Motherlode 400 Rally since the Alfetta was still down for repair. 40ish classic cars hit the small town of Hornitos, CA for lunch, and you have to wonder what the locals thought at being swarmed by that many old cars at once. In the background, you can see another participant’s 1969 GTV. The driving on this year’s Motherlode Rally was amazing as usual, with more technical driving than some other vintage rallies and two nights at the same location so you needn’t drag everything with you.

Just Nice – 1972 MGB

July 18, 2014

Sometimes a car comes up where the combination of photography, the car itself, the description, and more all beckon at you. “Look at me,” they say, “I’m beautiful, I run great, and you’ll have fun driving me home. Rescue me from my distant driveway and bring me back with you.” It doesn’t even have to be a car you’ve been searching for, or one that’s at the top of your list – in fact, it’s a more pleasant surprise when you weren’t expecting it. This morning, we have a car like that – check out this 1972 MGB for sale for $4000 in Bremerton, WA.

Deja Vu – 1981 Triumph TR7 PI

July 16, 2014

There has been no shortage of British wedges on the market lately, so we’re able to hunt and peck to find some of the nicer examples, or at least those with better specification. As mentioned in the past, some of the latest TR7s came with fuel injection (you can hardly use the British term, PI – short for Petrol Injection – without thinking of Magnum PI. Hmm, Magnum Petrol Injection would be a much better name than L-jetronic). These late-production cars were better suited to the evolving smog rules of the day, and will hopefully provide both improved reliability and easier emissions testing. Check out this 1981 Triumph TR7 for sale for $3100 in Santa Cruz, CA.
