All Faux, No Go – 1977 Triumph TR7 Coupe

March 8, 2016

Triumph’s TR7 makes a great alternative to more common sports cars of its time. It’s got a divisive notchback wedge design, flip-up headlights, gawky big bumpers, decent power which is sometimes hampered by smog equipment, as well as plaid seating, a useful trunk and the most modern amenities you’ll find on any affordable British sports car of its time. All those things make it a good alternative to cars like the Mazda RX-7 with its rotary engine, plaid seating, useful rear hatch and… wait, what? The Japanese car is weirder? Anyhow, TR7s seem to have suffered greater attrition, so let’s pretend it’s weird just for being rare and take a look at this 1977 Triumph TR7 coupe for sale for $3500 in Carver, MA.

Schwarz Sport – 1986 Porsche 944

March 4, 2016

Porsche’s 944 offers an accessible yet iconic Porsche experience. It may not be a 911, but let’s face it, 911s were never this accessible, or this user-friendly. And the 944 offers cool 1980s design cues including a molded glass hatch, box flares, and flip-up headlights. Torque from the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is good, and the rear transaxle makes for a well-balanced car – the only similar offering in the 1980s was Alfa Romeo’s GTV6. Finding a good example of either under our self-imposed price cap is a bit of a challenge, though, so it’s nice when one comes up – let’s have a look at this 1986 Porsche 944 for sale for $3800 in McMinnville, OR.

Curvy and Petite – 1969 Opel GT

November 19, 2015

If you’re on the lookout for a small sports car, but an MGB GT, Alfa GTV, or Triumph GT6 is just not curvy enough for you, the Opel GT seems to be a car designed by someone who brought their French curve to work, but left the ruler at home. And if, on top of that, you’re tired of having easy access to your car’s rear stowage compartment, or those sorry excuses for rear seats that just add weight, then you should take a serious look at this 1969 Opel GT for sale for $3500 in Ferndale, WA.
