There’s not much out there if you’re a row-your-own kind of driver who needs to have a van to accommodate family, furniture, or other bulky items. If you narrow it even further to a vehicle you can sleep and eat in fairly comfortably, there’s not much left, particularly in the modern car segment. So it’s nice to find a VW Eurovan with manual transmission. These early Eurovans didn’t have the VR6 of the late 90s to early 00s vans; instead, they featured a 2.5-liter 5-cylinder, ostensibly to make up for the power deficit of Vanagons and Type 3 buses. Unfortunately, they were not outrageously successful, and the manuals are pretty thin on the ground. Of course, you can trust San Francisco to have any oddball for sale, so check out this 1993 VW Eurovan for sale for $3500 in San Francisco, CA.

In a Eurovan, Down by the River – 1993 VW Eurovan

August 28, 2014Here’s another entry in the chronicling of interesting cars on the roads of the San Francisco Bay Area of California. And this is only what your faithful correspondent can capture on camera – for example, today there was a Rover P4 on the streets of San Francisco, and an Alfa Berlina on the streets of Berkeley/Oakland. To catch us up, check out this 1964 Dodge 880 sedan. The owner has done some cool modifications that really add to the allure of this car – a slightly lowered body with shiny but worn paint is offset by red reverse steel wheels with faux knockoffs. This picture doesn’t really do it justice – if you live in Oakland, keep an eye open for this example of “the most elegant automobile ever fashioned by Dodge” (says the brochure).
Ur-Minivan – 1961 Austin Mini Van
July 23, 2014Another thing that adds to the interest factor for cars is if they’re unusually small (unusually big is cool too, but since the size of the average North American car is pretty big anyways, that becomes impractical pretty quickly), or if they’re in a rarely-seen utilitarian version. Think of station wagons, half-cars/utes, and panel vans based on wagons – what isn’t cool about those? Okay, outward vision isn’t… anyhow, here’s a vehicle that covers a trifecta of cool-car criteria. It’s unusually small, it’s a wagon-based panel van, and it’s fun around the corners – check out this 1961 Austin Mini van for sale for $2500 in Chino Hills, CA.
