Live from the 2002 Show – 1971 BMW 2002

May 3, 2014

Sometimes the best way to find a car is not to look around online (although that’s quite effective), but to go out for events like shows and driving events can sometimes be just as effective. At a Brisbane, CA show of BMW 2002s, there were a good handful of E10 BMWs for sale, including a very original 1969 BMW 2002 and a 1971 BMW 2002 with recent paint and a nice interior. One of the more interesting cars for sale was a 1971 2002 that looked to be in the middle of a rolling restoration, for sale for $3800 in the east San Francisco Bay Area, CA.

Rot ist schneller – 1987 BMW 535is

April 4, 2014

For anyone who grew up in the 1980s, particularly in the coastal states where European cars are more popular, it’s hard to believe that the once-ubiquitous E28 BMW is slowly disappearing from our roads. The occasional beater 528e is still around, and if you’re lucky, you can spot the odd 535is that’s clearly owned by a devoted BMW nut, but finding a 533i or 524td is like finding a needle in a haystack. Futhermore, in a testament to these cars’ durability and lasting appeal, most have well over 200,000 miles on them. So finding one with low miles in decent driver condition is a pleasant surprise. You can find this 1987 BMW 535is for sale for $4000 in Austin, TX.

Rusty But Trusty on the Street – BMW 2002tii, Jaguar XJ6, Pontiac Catalina, Datsun 2000, and Mercedes 280SL

April 1, 2014

Time for more catching up on the local sights. First off is an early-morning sighting of a BMW 2002tii the way we like them – daily driven and a little crispy around the edges. This would probably horrify the local BMWCCA show crowd – after all, no amount of Q-tips will clean the dirt out of the nooks and crannies on this one – but it’s great to see someone actually using their 2002 – a tii no less – as intended. This looks to be the Agave green color, and aside from the rust, it looks really straight and complete, down to the steel tii wheels with hubcaps. This has been a California car since at least the early 1980s, judging by the sunrise plates.
