Every car enthusiast has their favorite iteration of BMW’s E24 6-series, whether it’s one of the European models, a coachbuilt convertible, or the M6. But even the lowliest 628 still has the presence of that gorgeous design, styled by Paul Bracq with input from Bob Lutz. Thankfully, many are at the point of being fully depreciated, so skipping a mortgage payment or two will allow you to put an E24 in your garage. September 17, 2014Nearly Live From The Scene – 2014 California Melee Report
September 9, 2014This past weekend was the occasion for the 2014 California Melee, a low-buck 3-day event that’s been held since 1997. The Melee features fast back road touring in roughly the same vicinity as its more high-brow neighbor, the California Mille (Miglia), going from San Francisco to Red Bluff to Fort Bragg and back to SF. In addition to fantastic driving, you get great scenery since this covers the wine country, Central Valley, and the northern California coast with its beautiful shoreline and gigantic redwood trees. There are also a few dirt sections, which explains the condition of the RustyButTrusty 2002.
It’s a Bav – 1973 BMW Bavaria
September 4, 2014It’s been a while since a Bavaria has appeared here, so when a recent search yielded a running example, it was an automatic candidate for a write-up. These 7-series predecessors are finally getting some of the respect they deserve, much like other less desirable relatives of more popular cars (see Alfa Giulia TI/Giulia Super/Berlina, Dino coupe/spider, Porsche 912). So your former parts donor is now a source for more than parts – it’s a source of a similar driving experience at a more accessible cost of entry, and sometimes one you can more easily share with friends. Check out this 1973 BMW Bavaria for sale for $2500 in Port St. Lucie, FL.
