Deja Vu – 1981 Triumph TR7 PI

July 16, 2014

There has been no shortage of British wedges on the market lately, so we’re able to hunt and peck to find some of the nicer examples, or at least those with better specification. As mentioned in the past, some of the latest TR7s came with fuel injection (you can hardly use the British term, PI – short for Petrol Injection – without thinking of Magnum PI. Hmm, Magnum Petrol Injection would be a much better name than L-jetronic). These late-production cars were better suited to the evolving smog rules of the day, and will hopefully provide both improved reliability and easier emissions testing. Check out this 1981 Triumph TR7 for sale for $3100 in Santa Cruz, CA.

Rusty But Trusty on the Street – Chevrolet, Triumph, Ford, VW

July 15, 2014

Time to revisit RustyButTrusty on the Street, after a long-ish hiatus, where we look at cars found on the streets on the west coast and beyond. First up is a Chevrolet 3100 van, from about 1953. When you get depressed about the throngs of Priuses and Accords on the highways, doesn’t it make you smile to think someone is daily driving this old thing? The truck looks great in person, and makes you wonder what’s in the back… vintage motorcycles? Woodworking tools? Something ultra-modern like, say, computer and printer repair supplies?

More Angles – 1979 Triumph TR7

July 3, 2014

In case this week’s cars haven’t been angular enough for you, there’s more coming. The late 1970s and early 1980s produced many angular, folded-paper style designs. While Triumph’s last breath (other than the post-mortem Acclaim, which was a badge-engineered Honda Civic sedan) didn’t have as sharp creases in its design as the Volvo 740 or VW Golf Mk1, it was nonetheless was one of the first cars to democratize the wedge as a viable car shape, heretofore only known on exotics. Critics and pundits labeled it the wedge or doorstop, and Triumph themselves called it the shape of things to come, but 35 years on it’s a capable, still-contemporary sports car. Check out this 1979 Triumph TR7 for sale for $4100 in Daly City, CA.
