Though the Motherlode 400 rally usually runs the second weekend in June, the photos sat in the camera until last night. Here’s a fun set of pictures to get you thinking about what you’re going to do with your car before winter sets in, or make plans for next year’s rally season. First is this picture on the way up into the Sierra, showing (from left to right) the RustyButTrusty Alfa Romeo Spider, Porsche 356, BMW 1600, Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Speciale, and Toyota Celica.

Better Late Than Never – 2014 Motherlode 400 Report
September 9, 2014Long Lost Cousins – 1981 VW Scirocco and 1976 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT
July 30, 2014One of the major shortcomings of most car shows, aside from the fact that the owners aren’t driving their cars, is that they’re mostly arranged by marque or by year. What if show organizers arranged cars by more esoteric themes, such as designers, design trends, or social themes? You could tell much more interesting stories that way – juxtaposing Engle-designed Lincolns and Imperials, for example, or a progression spartan post-war European cars through the 1980s. Or you could set various cars from the wedge styling trend together so you could look at a VW Scirocco, Isuzu Impulse/Piazza, Lotus Esprit, Lamborghini Countach, and Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT all in the same row. Well, some of those are out of our budget, but perhaps these two cars can get you started on your own wedge collection. Check out this 1981 VW Scirocco 16v for sale for $3000 in West Hollywood, CA.
RustyButTrusty on the Street – Alfa, Mini, Mercedes, Volvo
July 19, 2014Welcome back to RustyButTrusty on the Street, where we take a look at recent sightings of people using classic cars as they were originally intended. First up is the RustyButTrust 1977 Alfa Romeo Spider, which was a surprise participant in the 2014 Motherlode 400 Rally since the Alfetta was still down for repair. 40ish classic cars hit the small town of Hornitos, CA for lunch, and you have to wonder what the locals thought at being swarmed by that many old cars at once. In the background, you can see another participant’s 1969 GTV. The driving on this year’s Motherlode Rally was amazing as usual, with more technical driving than some other vintage rallies and two nights at the same location so you needn’t drag everything with you.
