SCCA F Street Prepared – 1978 Honda Accord Hatch

September 22, 2014

Honda’s Accord is not exactly known to raise anybody’s heart rate, barring some limited-production Si-R and Type R versions not imported to North America. But add a dash of Minilite wheel here, sports suspension there, and sticky rubber here, and all of a sudden you have a fun little car with a rev-happy four-cylinder that will entertain you on the way, even if getting there is not so quick. And as discussed before in this very place, it’s always fun to see these older Japanese cars from when eastern manufacturers were still finding their way in North America, and when their full-size offerings were the size of their current compact sedans. Check out this 1978 Honda Accord Hatch SCCA F Street Prepared for sale for $2900 in Salem, OR.

Tito’s Last Gasp – 1987 Yugo GV

September 19, 2014

The Yugo was the only car built behind the Iron Curtain to be successfully sold in the United States. Malcolm Bricklin found himself a cheap car to take advantage of Americans’ never-ending thirst for cheap wheels, and the thawing cold war meant it was easier to accept cars from the socialist bloc than when Ladas and Skodas were being sent to places like Finland, England, and Canada. And while those cars were either fully or partly developed by nasty Communists, the Yugo was just a Fiat built outside of Italy, which was not communist or socialist at all! Okay, actually, it was, kinda. Check out this 1987 Yugo GV for sale for $1500 in Lemon Valley, NV.

Not Limited – 1966 Ford LTD

September 19, 2014

Many enthusiasts would agree that American manufacturers hit some design high points in the 1960s – freeing themselves from the clutter of tailfins and excessive chrome of the 1950s, and simultaneously blissfully unaware of the 1970s constraints imposed by safety bumpers, headlight and bumper height regulations, and more. Based on the Galaxie line of cars, the LTD was the top of the line for the 12th generation full-size Ford, and was available with V8 power from 289 to 428 cubic inches. And while it’s a bit of a grandma car, seeing one of these parked on a corner of a postwar suburban street evokes the height of the cold war, space race, and more. Check out this 1966 Ford LTD for sale for $3000 in Sparks, NV.
