Frequent readers might know that early turbocharged cars are popular here. Sure, they’re not as refined as a modern turbo, where you get a nearly smooth flow of power like, say, an older six-cylinder, but that’s part of the fun for a true car nut – the car is transparent about what it’s doing and when it’s doing it. So sure, you get crazy wheel-spinning turbo boost at 3000rpm, and you have to hang on for dear life in the rain, but that’s why you should be going to the gym and working those forearms. And if you’re not, maybe you can look at this as exercise. So to improve your physical fitness, why not take a look at this 1978 Saab 99 Turbo for sale for $1000 in Castle Rock, WA.

Turbo for a Grand – 1978 Saab 99 Turbo
August 14, 2014Hot Rod Swede – 1966 Volvo 122S
July 19, 2014The great thing about Volvos, aside from their minimalist Swedish design aesthetic and durability, is the fact their rather conservative and plain styling can hide something really fun. And unexpected fun is the best kind – think of the last time you had a surprisingly good meal at that hole in the wall, or hit it off with a new friend. So, you say, what does that metaphor have to do with a red two-door car with a spoiler on the front? Well, it’s a Volvo, so the stock powertrain promises a safe, respectable 95-or-so horsepower, and the 4-speed M41 overdrive transmission promises relaxed freeway cruising. You can find this Volvo 122S for sale for $4000 in Bellingham, WA.
RustyButTrusty on the Street – Alfa, Mini, Mercedes, Volvo
July 19, 2014Welcome back to RustyButTrusty on the Street, where we take a look at recent sightings of people using classic cars as they were originally intended. First up is the RustyButTrust 1977 Alfa Romeo Spider, which was a surprise participant in the 2014 Motherlode 400 Rally since the Alfetta was still down for repair. 40ish classic cars hit the small town of Hornitos, CA for lunch, and you have to wonder what the locals thought at being swarmed by that many old cars at once. In the background, you can see another participant’s 1969 GTV. The driving on this year’s Motherlode Rally was amazing as usual, with more technical driving than some other vintage rallies and two nights at the same location so you needn’t drag everything with you.
