Not a Diesel – 1976 BMW 2002

Lest you think this has become Diesel But Trusty, there are several interesting cars out there that don’t depend on diesels of excessive (or excessively limited) longevity. Although BMW 2002s in excellent condition have escalated beyond the lower-cost range of classic cars, you can still get a decent car if you’re willing to put some time into it, or live with a little rust, or perhaps a less popular color. Lingering Listing #2 – 1979 BMW 320i

As a continuation of today’s theme, you can find some pretty decent cars lingering on online listings sites. With all the great cars BMW has produced over the years, the E21 is an easy series to overlook. It has the unhappy position of filling the 2002’s shoes, which it did fine as a new car, but not so much as a classic. As such, it has 2002 power, but more weight from safety and smog equipment. It’s also a more muted driving experience than a 2002, having been upgraded to be a more luxurious car. All that considered, it’s still typical of BMW design and philosophy, so is worth considering if you’re looking for affordable alternatives. Creamy – 1980 BMW 633 CSi

One of BMW’s most successful designs, the E24 6-series coupe is a beautiful car, on the bucket list of many a car enthusiast. In spite of its similarities to the first-generation (E23) 7-series, it’s actually based on the E12 (and later, E28) 5-series sedan. Powered by the M30B32 engine with 181hp and 195lb.-ft. of torque, you’d think it would be an absolute rocket, and while it is fairly fast, it’s also fairly heavy at just shy of 3300 lb. But those are exactly the ingredients for a great long-distance cruiser, which is why you should find one far from home and, after a careful prepurchase inspection, get acquainted on a road trip.
