If you want a cheap, small car that goes fast, you’ll have to look back to the first hot-hatch craze of the early to mid-1980s. That’s where you’ll find unusual hits like the Dodge Colt GT-S with twin stick, the Chevrolet Sprint Turbo, or the Isuzu I-Mark RS. To be fair to today’s feature car, that’s a bit of a digression, since it is no longer in possession of its original engine, having been upgraded with a Japanese-market B13G, which appears to be the stock engine in a Suzuki Swift GTi. You can find this 1986 Chevrolet Sprint Turbo, listed as a Chevy Sprint Turbo Forsa Cultus Swift Gti for sale for $3600 in Los Angeles, CA.

November 7, 2013Most Americans of a certain age – you were aware of your surroundings by the early 1990s – will remember the postal Jeeps that were everywhere, getting the mail delivered. Far fewer will know that the DJ series of Jeep dates back to 1955, with the DJ-3A. Based on the CJ-3A, it was offered with a hard top, soft top, or van body. There was also a right-hand-drive postal version, and special versions for resorts and vacation areas. You can find this Jeep DJ-3A hard top for sale in Dublin/Pleasanton, CA for $1300.
The Other TC – 1968 Rover 2000TC
November 7, 2013Like the Italians, the British seem to have had limited success with their sedans here, outside of the luxury class. Sedans from Rover, MG and Triumph never sold particularly well, even though they all had their merits. With some hindsight, it’s not all that surprising, perceived quality issues aside – American buyers were generally looking for power, style and space, and were not concerned about fuel economy, while British buyers’ needs were dictated by the relatively depressed post-war economy and high cost of fuel. Either way, that did not keep British manufacturers out of the honeypot that is the North American market. You can find this 1968 Rover P6 2000TC for sale in the Nob Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, CA for $2950.
