Rotary Pair – 1978 Mazda RX-7 plus bonus 1979 RX-7

September 13, 2014

While most RX-7 enthusiasts seem to aspire to the top-spec 5-letter GSL-SE with its 135hp 13b engine, there’s something very appealing about the simplicity of the original RX-7 – the funkier wheels and dual tail light rear end give the basic wedge (which shares a lot with the Porsche 924) some character. As with many 1970s versions of cars which were sold through the 1980s, the earlier cars probably weigh less and are less insulated, giving a purer, more raw experience. Oddly enough, the New York market has sprouted a couple of sweet examples of these cars – check out this 1978 Mazda RX-7 for sale for $3500 in Bridgeport, CT.

B is for Black – 1973 MGB Roadster

September 12, 2014

As much as the more complex, more unusual cars are cool, there’s something about a basic sports car that is hard to resist. And the MGB got the basics right – exhaust note, tidy styling, some trunk room for a weekend away, simple drivetrain, and some chrome-ringed gauges. Sometimes, though, it seems like even the basics are slipping out of reach, so we’re here to keep it real – check out this 1973 MGB for sale for $2000 near Hayward, CA.

Sunburst for Cacti – 1971 Opel GT

September 12, 2014

The 1960s and early 1970s truly were a golden era for the sports car, one that took another 30 years to fully return. To replace the fun but sometimes challenging machinery of that age, we’ve got some great sports cars like the Miata, Elise, and BR-Z/FR-S, and that’s only a short list. While cars like the Triumph TRs and MGB were best sellers, other cars like the Opel GT enjoyed a respectable amount of success, selling just over 100,000 cars in its 5 years of production. Check out this 1971 Opel GT for sale for $4000 in Stockton, CA.
