Four Hunnerd Bucks – 1980 Ford Fiesta

September 10, 2014

While the RustyButTrusty radar is usually trained squarely on the lower end of the four-figure price range, sometimes it’s possible to find some really neat stuff down at the low three figures. The RustyButTrusty Alfetta was a find in that range, and while it’s since seen significant improvements, it was a great way to get into a usable, unique, if not pretty car. With not a huge amount of work or cost, it developed into a capable event car. For only $150 more, you can take home this 1980 Ford Fiesta for sale for $400 in Morgan Hill, CA.

Sometimes, the perfect car is for sale in the perfect venue. And you all know the old real estate chestnut (location, location, location) – maybe it applies to cars too. That would have you buying your Alfa in North Beach or the North End (Italian quarters of San Francisco and Boston, respectively), your BMW in Leavenworth, WA (pseudo-Alpine town), and your Cadillac limousine from the side lot adjacent to a strip club. Wait, what? Check out this 1958 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 for sale for $4000 at the Reflections Bar in beautiful Fairbanks, AK.

Nearly Live From The Scene – 2014 California Melee Report

September 9, 2014

This past weekend was the occasion for the 2014 California Melee, a low-buck 3-day event that’s been held since 1997. The Melee features fast back road touring in roughly the same vicinity as its more high-brow neighbor, the California Mille (Miglia), going from San Francisco to Red Bluff to Fort Bragg and back to SF. In addition to fantastic driving, you get great scenery since this covers the wine country, Central Valley, and the northern California coast with its beautiful shoreline and gigantic redwood trees. There are also a few dirt sections, which explains the condition of the RustyButTrusty 2002.
