Time for more catching up on the local sights. First off is an early-morning sighting of a BMW 2002tii the way we like them – daily driven and a little crispy around the edges. This would probably horrify the local BMWCCA show crowd – after all, no amount of Q-tips will clean the dirt out of the nooks and crannies on this one – but it’s great to see someone actually using their 2002 – a tii no less – as intended. This looks to be the Agave green color, and aside from the rust, it looks really straight and complete, down to the steel tii wheels with hubcaps. This has been a California car since at least the early 1980s, judging by the sunrise plates.

Rusty But Trusty on the Street – BMW 2002tii, Jaguar XJ6, Pontiac Catalina, Datsun 2000, and Mercedes 280SL
April 1, 2014Jag For Real – 1974 Jaguar XJ6L
February 15, 2014Given that older Jaguar XJ6s are not greatly appreciated in the classic car world, it’s not surprising that one or two might show up here from time to time. However, it’s hard to understand why these won’t have their time in the market some point soon. They have iconic styling, a great engine, and share a lot with some truly famous siblings. And you might have noticed the sedan brethren of some of the sportscars that have seen a recent uptick in popularity are now also gaining interest – think of the Alfa Romeo Berlina and Giulia sedan for one. For the gentleman (or gentle woman, of course) who cannot afford an E-type or even a Mark 2, a Series 1 or 2 XJ6 is a great alternative. Check out this 1974 Jaguar XJ6L for sale for $4000 in Peoria, AZ.
Too Far Gone? 1957 Jaguar Mark 1 3.4
January 9, 2014Here’s a rare sight on these pages – a pre-XJ6 classic Jaguar. Most have moved into the major-asset level of collectibility, including any Mark 1 in half-decent shape. Ordinarily, non-running cars are not too appealing, especially when they appear to be this far gone, but some details about the car made it worth investigating. You can find this 1957 Jaguar Mark 1 3.4 for sale in Calexico, CA (yes, right on the border) for a mere $2500.
