From Aliens – 1989 Ford Probe GT

January 29, 2016

So if you had a sports coupe with reasonably attractive, contemporary styling and a fun turbocharged drivetrain, you’d definitely want to name it after something unpleasant aliens to do people they’ve abducted, right? Meant to be a replacement for the successful Capri in Europe, as well as the less-successful EXP in North America, and possibly the Mustang, it’s maybe better seen as a replacement for (or contemporary of) the Merkur XR4Ti featured yesterday. Of course, the Probe, built on Mazda’s GD platform and shared with the MX-6 and 626, is a lower-powered, front-wheel-drive car without some of the European charm, but thanks to attrition it’s become a pretty unusual sight on the roads itself. Check out this 1989 Ford Probe GT for sale for $2000 in Puyallup, WA.

Too Nice – 1982 Porsche 924

January 23, 2016

There aren’t many older Porsches that are still maligned by the market, so cars like the 914 and 912 have, in their old age, found popularity among classic car enthusiasts. But if you’re dying for an unpopular Porsche, and the Cayenne is not your thing, or you’re looking for an alternative to an Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT or BMW 320i, or you don’t care about engines, the Porsche 924 is worth a closer look. With 115hp from its 2-liter engine going through a 5-speed transaxle and a good size trunk with a 2+2 layout, it’s a practical weekend car for reasonably short money. So let’s take a look at this 1982 Porsche 924 for sale for $4000 in Monmouth, OR.

You Can Do It! – 1976 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT and 1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta Berlina

January 21, 2016

If you think the world is running out of cheap Alfas waiting to be rejuvenated, step back, Jack, because a diligent search in the online listings will turn up cars that don’t require you to find reproductions of parts last made in the 1960s, but also don’t need you to walk on eggshells after purchase for fear the timing belt might snap/slip, and make your engine do a mashup that’s decidedly uncool. So let’s conveniently disregard the fact you won’t be sourcing obscure parts for your 1970s ride because they just aren’t available anywhere, and take a look at this 1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta Berlina for sale for $3500 in Temple City, CA.
