Today’s theme is that sometimes the cool cars are close by, and sometimes they are far away. But the key is that people are out there using them, and even if they get dirty or chipped, they’re not half as much fun sitting in the garage. The first car is in an office development fairly close to RustyButTrusty world headquarters. R107 Mercedes SLs are not such a rare find, and would not ordinarily show up in this context, but this small-bumper SL is probably a 1972 or 1973 model. Complete with personalized blue California plates, it looks the part of the executive from one of those newfangled chip manufacturers. Can you imagine, some people were born and made it nearly through high school without Mercedes revealing a new SL?

November 26, 2013Lingering Listing #1: 1962 Austin Healey Sprite
November 15, 2013Another way to find an affordable classic car for sale is to troll through the older listings and see what turns up. While there will no doubt be some duds in there, both in terms of the car and the listing itself, services like craigslist require you to relist your item at the end of a predetermined interval. And while the reason for a no-sale could be the car, it could also be the description, the price, the seller, or the fact that the listing has disappeared from the top of search results. One of those factors is the reason why this 1962 Austin Healey Sprite, for sale in Fair Oaks, CA for $4000, has not sold yet.
The Anti-SL – 1972 Triumph Stag
November 9, 2013Who doesn’t like a small-displacement V8? Manufacturers with lofty reputations like Ferrari, Lamborghini, and BMW have sold small V8s. And, who doesn’t like Italian bodies? Manufacturers across the board have sold cars with Italian-styled bodies, from the pedestrian VW Golf/Rabbit to the exotic Iso, Maserati, and more. So a V8-powered sporting cabriolet with Italian styling couldn’t go wrong, could it? Well, ordinarily yes, but mix in labor unrest and British Leyland cost cutting and everything starts to go pear-shaped. Timing chains break, engines overheat, safety regulations result in a big, hideous rollbar from the factory, and the expected power doesn’t materialize. Nonetheless, the Triumph Stag is still alluring to a certain twisted percentage of the populace. You can find this 1972 Triumph Stag for sale in Bremerton, WA for a mere $3500.
