Most Popular – 1980 MGB

January 23, 2014

A not-so-recent article in Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car listed the world’s most popular (by quantity built) open cloth top roadsters. It bridged a whole variety of the class, all the way from the MG Midget to the Mercedes R107 SL, with many in between, and serves as good inspiration for a couple of postings. While the Mazda Miata was the most popular car on the list, second place went to the MGB. While many of these have moved out of reach for the collector on a budget, it is still possible to find some nice-looking examples at a reasonable price, particularly if you’re willing to compromise on things like giant, black battering ram bumpers and a color that makes you want to reach for a packet of Swiss Miss (or worse, but this is a mostly family friendly website). You can find this 1980 MGB for sale in Kansas City, MS for $4000.

Pre-Escort – 1961 Ford Anglia

January 12, 2014

So we’re going to get through this whole posting without mentioning what movie this car appeared in, right? Right. Okay, as with many older little British economy cars, you can find nicely restored examples near the $10,000 mark, or absolute sheds needing a full restoration that will cost you more than the $10,000 car did in the first place. So it’s refreshing to find what appears to be a nicely weathered one of these cars available – it’s this 1961 Ford Anglia for sale for $3500 in Olympia, WA.

Too Far Gone? 1957 Jaguar Mark 1 3.4

January 9, 2014

Here’s a rare sight on these pages – a pre-XJ6 classic Jaguar. Most have moved into the major-asset level of collectibility, including any Mark 1 in half-decent shape. Ordinarily, non-running cars are not too appealing, especially when they appear to be this far gone, but some details about the car made it worth investigating. You can find this 1957 Jaguar Mark 1 3.4 for sale in Calexico, CA (yes, right on the border) for a mere $2500.
