Commonwealth Saloons – 1958 Austin A55 Cambridge

March 4, 2014

As a result of Canada being in the British Commonwealth, and Canadian consumers having more frugal tastes in cars, British non-sports cars were available for longer and enjoyed greater success than they ever did in the United States. That’s how they got Minis through the late 1970s, the Innocenti DeTomaso in the mid-1980s, and some other things we didn’t see in the US, like the Hyundai Pony, Lada, Skoda, and more recently, Mercedes B-class and first-generation Smart ForTwo. And while post-war Austins were offered in the US (this one as the Austin Cambrian), buyers of family sedans preferred American cars for greater size, power, reliability, and durability. Check out this 1958 Austin A55 Cambridge for sale for $3995 in Vancouver, BC at a Kia dealership.

Anti-Landie – 1960 Austin Gipsy

December 30, 2013

Cars like Beetles, Cinquecentos and Minis are appealing for their simplicity – everything is small, nothing would seem to be terribly heavy, and the base specification means there aren’t as many features to repair or replace. Cold war-era 4x4s (Jeeps and all the vehicles they inspired) take this to an even further extreme, with limited amenities, limited brightwork and basic paint, so getting one back into shape should be relatively easy. Or you can postpone cosmetic work and just focus on mechanical reliability for a real working truck look. And that’s where this 1960 Austin Gipsy comes in, for sale for $2750 in North Spokane, WA.

Hoard Sale – From Alfa to Volvo

December 17, 2013

Most often, sales of large collections are full of a bunch of junk, and only one or two gems. However, when the seller is a retiring European car mechanic, you’re bound to get some interesting finds. The seller’s father was in the business for 30 years, and clearly felt the same about cars as some people feel about dogs, cats, or friends with emotional trauma – they love the idea of a project. This project car collection is for sale in Olympia, WA, with no asking prices, aside from a request not to offer scrap prices (although what that is, is not clear). To start us off, here’s a 1981 Alfa Romeo GTV6 with no obvious damage, although protracted outdoor storage in what looks to be a damp forest will mean it needs a lot.
