Volvo Show, Part 2 – 1990 Volvo 240 DL Wagon

May 25, 2016

If you’re looking for a deal on a Volvo, but the 242 GT is too boy-racer for you, how about a gold 240 wagon? Seriously, all it needs is a public radio sticker and a 1980s child seat in the back and you’ll throw every member of Generation X who grew up in a major urban area back in time. The great thing about the wagon is, you don’t give up anything in terms of the basic platform, and you get more room. To offset the extra weight of the slightly bigger body, the 240’s engine had an extra half point in compression by 1990, so you got a 7hp boost. And the same chassis and engine performance parts bolt on here, so you can have your cake and load it full of luggage too. Check out this 1990 Volvo 240 DL for sale for $4500 in northwestern (likely Portland) Oregon.

Volvo Show, Part 1 – 1979 Volvo 242 GT

May 24, 2016

There’s nothing better than accidentally happening upon a car show. Except when people attend a show with an interesting car they’re trying to sell. And that’s where this site comes in, though the Volvos only fulfill half the criteria the name suggests. Last weekend, ipd, a supplier of Volvo performance parts, hosted a garage sale and car show at their facilities near the Portland airport. There were some pretty fantastic cars there, including a nice selection of older Volvos with period performance parts, even a 122 sedan with a supercharged engine. With that, let’s take a look at one of the for-sale offerings, a 1979 Volvo 242 GT for sale for $4500 in Oregon.

Baby’s Back – 1978 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce

May 23, 2016

After a protracted period of downtime following its interstate move, the RustyButTrusty Alfa Spider took a time-out under a cover in the garage. Its issues were minor, but it finally went down to the local Alfa doctor in Portland to get some attention. Fortunately, the minor issues included an air leak causing a racing idle, along with a chunk missing out of a long-cracked donut, and some pinging under part throttle. With these problems resolved (at relatively small cost, fortunately), it’s eager to please again. Which brings us to an important point – the 105/115-chassis Spider is one of the best and most cost-effective ways to live the Alfa experience. Check out this 1978 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce for sale for $4500 in Napa County, CA.
