Mighty Manual – 1984 BMW 733i

November 22, 2015

There are plenty of great, affordable luxury sedans that’ll eat your wallet alive if you aren’t watching out. Even reliable older Lexus LS400s have some complicated repairs due at this point that, while probably not as draining as that beater W140 S-class you’ve been eyeing, are nonetheless costly. There are a few ways to mitigate risk on older luxury sedans, and one is to reduce complexity. Like by finding a unicorn-ish E23 BMW with a manual transmission, which avoids the failure of the automatic at around 100,000 miles. That leads us to this 1984 BMW 733i for sale for $2400 in Vancouver, WA.

White Elephant – 1976 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT

November 21, 2015

As a writer, it’s a privilege to be able to highlight any particular model of car, especially ones that are overlooked by most enthusiasts. Frequent readers will know the Alfetta GT provided a lot of inspiration for this site, and as a result each one within the self-imposed price ceiling is featured here. Of course, sometimes that means featuring white elephant cars – unrecoverable projects, or cars for sale from owners who have an overinflated idea of their value. A good example of such a situation is today’s feature car – check out this 1976 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT for sale for $3495 in Boise, ID.

My, What Big Bumpers You Have – 1974 Fiat 124 Coupe

November 19, 2015

Fiat’s 124 coupe went through several changes in its 8-year lifespan, from the delicate, oh-so-60s-Italian looking AC version, through the handsomely updated BC, and then the, uh, controversial and final CC. In North America, the CC had to endure DOT bumpers as well, and it’s not clear why Fiat did this – sales numbers can’t have been that great, and practically speaking, they were probably available new for the same amount of time as Alfa’s GTV, which retained small bumpers, or any number of British cars that simply sprouted big rubber thingies for the 1974 model year. To be fair, Alfa’s Berlina and the MGB got hit by the ugly stick in that time of transition, but you’ll probably agree that this adaptation of bumpers, apparently sourced from a VW Thing, has a far worse impact on this 1974 Fiat 124 Coupe for sale for C$1000 (US$752 today) in Delta, BC.
