Continuing the theme of featuring interesting cars from abroad, here’s a first for us – a “historic” car which has received its certification from ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiani). This certification is only given to cars with a known history that are located in Italy, and gives some special benefits that only apply there, such as access to areas blocked to normal cars. So for us foreigners, the primary benefit is that of the car’s history, and that cool little badge on the front bumper. And it should come as no surprise by now that the love here is strong for little Italian tin cans, the 128 ranking high on that list. Unfortunately, most surviving 128s in North America appear to be the later, big bumper examples, so for an earlier 128 it’s easier to go abroad. That’s how you’ll find this 1972 Fiat 128 Berlina 4-door for sale for €2000 ($2751 today) in Agropoli, Salerno, Italy.

March 28, 2014Little Car, Big World – 1974 MG Midget
March 27, 2014While twin overhead cams, aluminum heads, and 5-speed transmissions are all exciting, there’s something very appealing about a simple little car like the MG Midget. It’s everything you need to define it as a car, and nothing more, much like, say, a pizza margherita or simple pasta and tomato sauce. And true to both, because there’s not a bunch of fancy features to distract the driver/eater, the basic product is a test of its maker’s abilities. Just as some chefs can make a great pizza margherita, so MG made some great sports cars, and with the Midget, they proved that even the most basic, stripped down of sports cars could still be a lot of fun. You can find this 1974 MG Midget for sale for $4000 in Keller, TX.
Camaro Junior – 1973 Chevrolet Vega GT
March 26, 2014The Chevy Vega is a much-maligned car that suffered a poor reputation due to a rush to market, which meant customers were guinea pigs for many of its innovative features. However, cars that have survived 40-plus years now have likely had any necessary updates made, and thanks to natural attrition, should work well as a stylish, unusual classic for which you can still get parts at your corner parts store. Check out this 1973 Chevrolet Vega GT for sale for $3500 in Duncanville, TX.
