Depending on your perspective, hoards of old cars are either sad or interesting. But they’re also kind of like a car accident – you can’t look away. And here at RustyButTrusty HQ, it’s hard to look away from hoards containing small, sporty, or underdog cars, particularly imported ones. So let’s start off with a selection from a hoard in eastern West Virginia (wait, isn’t that just Virginia?) – this 1970s VW Treehuggers Edition Beetle, for sale in Ranson, WV. And yes, there’s no price, but you know the saying – if you have to ask, you can’t afford it. Thanks to reader Dave for finding this listing.

January 19, 2014Wagon Friday – 1967 Chevrolet Caprice Wagon
January 17, 2014While the Plymouth Satellite certainly was an interesting vehicle, and has some good nostalgic value, it could never be described as beautiful, or even really attractive. Such is not the case with Chevrolet and its full-size Impala line – they were quite attractive, and in 1967, while they lost the cool triple-round tail lights on either side, they gained enhanced Coke-bottle styling inspired by the Corvette. They also received a gaggle of safety improvements, courtesy of the US government. While wagons have risen to prominence as collector cars, what with boomers and Gen Xers growing to an age where they are having nostalgia for the cars of their childhoods, there are still quite a few affordable options, such as this 1967 Chevrolet Caprice wagon, for sale in Van Nuys, CA with bidding at $200 and 2 weeks left to go.
Wagon Friday – 1971 Plymouth Satellite
January 17, 2014Since it’s a holiday weekend (well, at least for some folks), it seems worth featuring a couple of station wagons like the ones people might have used to get out of town. 1971 brought the third generation Satellite, this time bringing it in line with the fuselage styling on the larger Fury line. And – let’s talk about the name itself for a second – Satellite is a great name, as it evokes the period in which it was built, with the space race and cold war in full swing, even if the connotation (a lesser planet that circles a larger one) is not incredibly flattering. Of course, the Satellites also recall many a car chase in movies and TV shows of the 1970s and 1980s. You can find this 1971 Plymouth Satellite wagon for sale in North Seattle, WA with a starting bid of $275 and 3 days left to go.
