Snow Spider – 1972 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce

February 26, 2016

Still an open secret, the Alfa Spider soldiers on as a great way to get into an entry-level classic coachbuilt sports car. Whether carbureted or fuel injected, the 2-liter four cylinder is torquey fun, and has an intoxicating exhaust note that, while no Ferrari, signals that it’s something special when you hear it coming. Cool touches like the 45-degree console mounted shifter, large three-spoke wood-rim steering wheel and tach/speedometers in their own pods also make for something a little more special than their contemporaries. Sadly, attrition means a few more disappear every year, so it’s important to rescue the ones that are still out there, like this 1972 Alfa Romeo Spider for sale for $2300 in Boston, MA.

RustyButTrusty on the Street – Catch-Up Edition

October 18, 2015

When it comes down to it, there’s nothing like a move out of the city into the suburbs that will complicate spotting cars on the street that are there long enough to whip out a camera (phone) and grab a snapshot, but in spite of that, your trusty photographer has prevailed to capture the following cars. First up is a Land Rover that is technically not on the street. What’s more is, it probably hasn’t seen a street for a while. It looks to be a Series 1, and sports a pre-1963 British plate with county code TD, indicating it started life in Manchester. Being in Portland’s Pearl District, it wouldn’t be surprising if it was used as a display for one of the trendy shops there, and has since been stored and forgotten.

Eighties Bargain – 1989 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce

March 25, 2015

With Hemmings Sports & Exotic featuring the multiple generations of the 115-chassis Alfa spider on their cover this month, is it long until people realize that, at least in North America, these are a stunning bargain you can get in several flavors? Yes, they were outdated when new, and yes, they’re prone to rust and have that oh-so-horrible Italian driving position, but honestly, do you care about those things in an occasional driver? All that considered, if you’re looking for a spider that offers all that and still undercuts the market, it might be worth a look at this 1989 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce for sale for $2800 in Salem, OR.
