Husky Competition – 1958 Ford Squire

October 14, 2014

Supposing you’re into little British cars, but the usual sporting offerings from MG and Triumph are a little too common, a little too fast, or don’t have enough cargo capacity. Supposing you like the new Ford Transit Connect, but it’s just a little too… modern, with its fuel injection, insulation, radio, and more. Well, today’s your lucky day, since we’ve got a 1950s British utility vehicle that gave the Hillman Husky and Morris Minor vans a run for their money in its time. You can find this 1958 Ford Squire for sale for $3500 in San Carlos, CA.

Got Faux-Wood? 1971 Ford Torino Squire

March 20, 2014

With the memory of fleets of these barges on the road fading, and the ability to look at each as an individual and see where the hits and the strikes were, you can see that Ford got it right with the 1970-71 models. Originally a special version of the Fairlane (as the Caprice was of the Impala), the new Torino had taut (if large) styling with tight, sharp corners and Coke-bottle influence that made it look like a custom-fit suit. As with today’s Thunderbirds, the styling was influenced by the supersonic jets of the time, with their big-mouth intakes and aerodynamic-looking profiles. Squires (along with Broughams and GTs) were equipped with the 302ci V8, which was good for 220hp with a two-barrel carb. You can find this 1971 Ford Torino Squire for sale for $2200 in St. Petersburg, FL.

Morning, Squire! – 1973 Ford Pinto Squire Wagon

January 14, 2014

Ever since people collected and restored Ford Model Ts, and possibly before that with the curved dash Olds, even “mundane” everyman cars were on their way to becoming collectible. When you’re buying one of those, it’s the automotive equivalent of comfort food – you’re not necessarily doing it because it expands your palate, or because it’s the best thing you ever tasted, but the memories it evokes are the most compelling reason. Unlike food, though, you might try out a different classic because it allows you to experience another time, perhaps one during which you weren’t even alive. For anyone under 40, that would be the case for today’s
