Big as Whales – 1972 Mercury Monterey and 1973 Buick Electra Coupe

September 3, 2014

It’s interesting to see how if you look beyond the popular models from Chevrolet and Buick, as we did with yesterday’s Dodge, you can find some interesting, very well-preserved American classics for really short money. Apply the usual caveats about pictures hiding the truth you could find in a real inspection, especially on humid-state cars, but a little bit of looking around yields some really nice grandpa cars that would probably make great companions for an interstate drive from their home to yours. The first example of this is this 1972 Mercury Monterey for sale for $1999 (payable in 3 EASY monthly installments) in Atlanta, GA.

Pepto Crown – 1955 Dodge Coronet

September 2, 2014

Something about the size and opulence of 1950s Detroit confections makes you expect they are all out of reach of the low-buck hobbyist, but in some cases, you’d be wrong – you just have to shop carefully. And even if you shop carefully, then you have to be cautious about looking for a bodge repair done in the 1970s when it was just a fully-depreciated used sedan. For 1955, the third-generation Coronet became Dodge’s low-line entry in the market, although it did offer some useful upgrades like power windows and safety door locks, and on higher line models, Dodge’s Red Ram V8. As a low-line model, though, it certainly still carried a lot of the optimistic design of post-war America. Check out this 1955 Dodge Coronet for sale for $4000 in Quincy, MA.

Getting Away With It – 1972 Mercedes 280SE 4.5

August 29, 2014

With the end of summer approaching in the parts of the country that have four seasons, it’s interesting to see what people are trying to move along as the old-car driving season draws to a close. The possibility of having to spend money on storage also puts pressure on pricing, so it’s your opportunity to scoop a good deal or two, especially if you can find something that’s had recent mechanical or cosmetic work. A great example of this timing is this 1972 Mercedes 280SE 4.5 for sale for $3950 in Roxbury, CT.
