The last big convertibles marketed by GM are imposing in their size and presence. And you didn’t need to buy a top-end Cadillac to get your big-convertible fix – middle managers could get a Pontiac Catalina, Oldsmobile 88, or the Buick, and working schmos could get a Chevrolet Caprice. And while driving a convertible these days means sacrificing space or convenience, these cars seat six and are equipped with power folding tops, so you can be pretty spontaneous about dropping the top, and they can take you near or far – providing you’re not afraid of getting half the fuel mileage of a modern convertible. May 19, 2016Deuce and a Quarter – 1962 Buick Electra 225
February 9, 2016Buick’s full size sedan from 1959 to 1990, the Electra opens up doors to some interesting naming practices in the company’s history. Electra was named for one-time president Harlow Curtice’s sister, 225 referred to the car’s length in inches, and the Wildcat 445 designation referred to the mammoth amount of gross-measure torque put out by the 401ci Nailhead V8. 1962 seems to have been the final year for Buick’s version of the GM bubble-top sedan with its trademark dog-leg A-pillar, and as such, some outrageous details like the gigantic tail fins and elaborate use of chrome were toned down, though far from finished. Let’s check out this 1962 Buick Electra 225 for sale for $3900 in Portland, OR.
Low Dollars Per Pound – 1966 Buick Special Wagon
December 14, 2015If you’re looking to get the most metal for the fewest dollars, and the vintage truck option has been nixed, you can’t do any better than an older American wagon. Wagons of the 1950s with exciting features like fins and lots of chrome that are in relatively good condition have become popular and correspondingly expensive, but the same has not yet happened to 1960s and early 1970s wagons with relatively clean, uncluttered designs and improvements in safety, handling, and reliability. Which brings us to this 1966 Buick Special wagon for sale for $1750 in McCleary, WA.
