Sunny Skies – 1973 Datsun 1200

June 19, 2016

Sometimes, the rarest version of a car is the stock one. And that’s the case with many Japanese classics – between the cars that died because Japanese cars were considered cheap throwaway appliances (and quite a few still are), and the surviving ones are popular for modifications for drag racing, vintage racing, and showing. So it’s exciting when you find a stock survivor, whether you see it as a blank canvas or just an example to be loved, preserved and brought back to factory spec. So let’s check out this 1973 Datsun 1200 for sale for $3400 in San Francisco, CA.

One of 1576 – 1988 Toyota MR2 Supercharged

May 26, 2016

Toyota’s MR2 scored on a lot of characteristics – a sharp, light platform; wedgy 1980s styling, even if it is awfully similar to other cars of the same period; a truly enjoyable powertrain; and legendary reliability and durability. Of course, like many 1980s Japanese cars, it had a strong propensity to rust and a rather plasticky interior. And that’s the basic MR2, to which you can add more 1980s features like t-tops and a wedgy spoiler, or a pop-out moonroof. But if you’re looking for more power, the factory offered a supercharged version that was good for an additional 33hp and dropped the 0-60mph time by about 1.5 seconds. Unfortunately for the budget-oriented car enthusiast, they’re not too readily available, but for today let’s take a look at this 1988 Toyota MR2 Supercharged for sale for $3500 in Medford, OR.

McDonough, Georgia, Part 2 – 1989 Suzuki Swift GTi

May 21, 2016

The Suzuki Cultus came in a number of humdrum variations that did a couple of things well – be cheap, and save gas. Somehow, their absolute bottom-end-ness makes them not quite as boring as a slightly larger bland-box – perhaps it’s because you really need to work to keep things on the move. But if you’re a fan of obscure versions of common appliances, you’ll know we’re not looking for one of those – it has to be either a Chevrolet Sprint Turbo or this 1989 Suzuki Swift GTi, for sale for $2100 in McDonough, GA.
