So you want a nimble, light sports sedan that’s not heavy with power windows and seats, airbags and other safety nonsense, and a good driver 2002 has moved out of range? All is not lost, by far. Twenty years after the 2002 went out of production, you could get quite a few sporty sedans that were relatively light, similarly quick, and fun to drive, with technology that was not available on the 2002 – things like electronic fuel injection and four-valve-per-cylinder heads, plus you might get somewhat better handling in poor conditions. March 9, 2015Vocho en las EEUU – 1971 VW Beetle
February 19, 2015With the millions of VW Beetles sold in this country and the world, they’re still pretty ubiquitous. So it’s hard to find what you might call an unusual version of the Beetle. For people north of the Mexican border, this is any Beetle built after 1979. The latest versions even had fuel injection and a catalytic converter, which must be pretty similar to final Canadian/US spec. Mexican built Beetles have an interesting mixture of features compared to the standard Canadian/US Beetles, and late in their production run lost things such as the flow-through ventilation system and any chrome fittings. M110 Plus Manual – 1979 Mercedes 280E
February 19, 2015Mercedes’ W123 series of cars has received many compliments over the years: safe, solid, heirloom car, and so forth. But nobody who’s ever been behind the wheel of a BMW or a Saab turbo would call it sporty. So what to do if you appreciate the qualities of the W123, but find it to be just a bit, well, slow? Well, forget the naturally aspirated diesels, with their two-digit horsepower numbers, and the price-inflated eco-hipster, bio-diesel conversion favorite, the 300D Turbodiesel.
