Ford Monday – 1973 Ford Pinto

February 17, 2014

Looking around at British classic car magazines, you can easily find some of the less popular classics in fantastic original condition with low miles for seemingly low prices (sometimes even 3 figures, although once you translate from pounds it’s not as impressive). And perhaps there’s a reason old Nige only drove his Allegro five times a year, but nonetheless, there’s that feeling of getting a nicer car than should be possible for the money. The same could be the case for less-popular American classics, although the chances of finding something that might take a corner or two well are slimmer. You can find this 1973 Ford Pinto for sale in San Diego, CA for $3200 (or £1914).

Ford Monday – 1969 Ford Galaxie LTD XL Convertible

February 17, 2014

1969 marked the first model year for the final generation of Ford Galaxie for North America. Bigger is better was still the watchword for Ford, and the new Galaxie was longer and had a larger top-spec engine with more power. Convertibles were still part of the lineup, along with sedans, 2- and 4-door hardtops, and wagons, and for 1969 they had concealed headlamps, a protruding center grill section, and a body-color bar stretching across the center of the grill. You can find this 1969 Ford Galaxie LTD XL convertible for sale for $2450 in El Cajon, CA.

1980s Heros – 1983 Volvo 244 Turbo and 1989 Ford Taurus SHO

February 10, 2014

What with all the emissions laws sucking the power (and filth, if you’re honest) out of our cars in the 1970s, manufacturers started finding ways to put actual performance and driving excitement back into cars after the initial blow. So you got cars like the Saab 99 Turbo, Fiat Spider Turbo, and the BMW 325i (six cylinders in a small sedan? what?) as turbochargers, fuel injection, and efficient catalytic converters made up for the Clean Air Act casualties. Somewhat later to the game, but absolutely credible as a 1980s icon, was the Volvo 244 Turbo. Unfortunately, many of the turbos have disappeared off the road, but you can still find this relatively low-mile 1983 Volvo 244 Turbo for sale for $3400 in Portland, OR.
