Mixed Feelings – 1995 Range Rover County LWB

November 24, 2015

Range Rovers bring up mixed feelings. On the one hand, they’re an iconic design and an extremely capable, well-designed vehicle, but on the other hand, they’re responsible (together with the Ford Explorer) for the concept of the modern SUV. Looking past the social baggage that carries, they are more practical and capable in utilitarian situations, like driving on trails, towing trailers loaded with rusty old sports cars, and driving over curbs and speed bumps at the mall snowdrifts. Recognizing these strengths, let’s take a look at this 1995 Range Rover County LWB for sale for $3900 in Vancouver, WA.

Breathing Fire – 1974 Triumph Spitfire

November 17, 2015

On the search for a good example of an MG Midget, the other junior British sports car showed up in some results. With its diminutive size and Italian styling, it could have easily passed for an etceterini in another life, so how about this equation: (Triumph Spitfire) + (hopped up Fiat 1100 engine + cool Italian wheels) = profit? Okay, maybe that’s a bit absurd, so let’s try a Spitfire with a hopped up Spitfire engine, and fortunately there’s this 1974 Triumph Spitfire for sale for $3000 in Bullhead City, AZ.

Unfiltered – 1972 MG Midget

November 13, 2015

For the final feature inspired by last week’s Subaru BR-Z rental, here’s another car that has overlapping qualities with that newer coupe. Granted, there are vast differences, but among new cars there is not a lot there for the classic car enthusiast who bemoans the loss of sensation in today’s newer cars – no engine noise, no road noise, no vibration, and – who in the dark days of the early 1980s knew we’d complain about this – too much power to really have fun. The MG Midget and Austin-Healey Sprite twins certainly had none of those problems – there’s plenty of engine and road noise, a little vibration here and there, enough power to have fun but not so much you’ll get in trouble, and it one-ups the Subaru with things like a challenging roof. Check out this 1972 MG Midget for sale for $4000 in Sacramento, CA.
