Let’s face it – while the E30 is recognized by some as the last real BMW, or (take your pick) cult classic, future classic, or “modern” 2002, it’s still a fairly common used car, at least in the drier states. Finding one requires sifting through piles of beaters, and once you get through that you might also want to eliminate the automatic transmission cars from consideration, as well as the iX models with the needlessly complex all-wheel-drive, and the early 318i with its gutless four-cylinder. That really doesn’t leave very many cars, so it’s nice to find a clean, affordable car with a manual transmission and a top that goes down. Kind of. July 11, 2014Bahn Burner – 1985 BMW 745i
June 26, 2014BMW’s E23 745i was the lesser-known big brother to the better-known 733i and 735i. The first turbocharged production six-cylinder from BMW, it was not followed by a similar engine configuration until the N54 turbo six of 2006, with BMW choosing to go the V8/V12 route in the interim. The 3.2 liter turbo six put out 252bhp and 276 lb.-ft. of torque, and was only offered with an automatic transmission. As such, these were the only 7-series to match the output of their E32 750i successors – check out this 1985 BMW 745i for sale for $3800 in Emeryville, CA.
Another $2800 – 1973 BMW Bavaria (plus bonus 1972 Bavaria!)
June 12, 2014It’s an interesting exercise to just pull a random price out of a hat and see what you can get for that. While not by design, the last two cars – a running but very faded Fiat 1100, and a similar condition Fiat 128 – were both priced at $2800, and so is our next feature. Check out this 1973 BMW Bavaria for sale for $2800 in Newark, NJ. Oh, how the mighty have fallen to the level of the plebeian cars…
