Lest you think this has become Diesel But Trusty, there are several interesting cars out there that don’t depend on diesels of excessive (or excessively limited) longevity. Although BMW 2002s in excellent condition have escalated beyond the lower-cost range of classic cars, you can still get a decent car if you’re willing to put some time into it, or live with a little rust, or perhaps a less popular color. Well, we have a combination of a handful of undesirable factors in a car that’s pretty decent overall – check out this 1976 BMW 2002 for sale in Sellwood, OR (near Portland) for $3500.

Not a Diesel – 1976 BMW 2002
November 17, 2013RustyButTrusty On The Street – Tough Americans and Boxy Germans
October 20, 2013There must have been a movie or TV series from the 1970s that cemented certain cars in your mind. The Plymouth Fury with the fuselage body is such a car – something about these, particularly when they’re rough around the edges, looks absolutely menacing. For an example, take a look at this Fury coupe parked on the streets of Oakland, CA. Silver is not always a color you’d associate with a scary car, but wouldn’t you be more afraid if one of these was silently pursuing you, as opposed to a modern, shiny black SUV that’s all the rage with the cool kids?
Too Clean – 1969 BMW 1602 2-liter
October 13, 2013It’s about time for another classic BMW feature. Why? Being needlessly partial to the members of the RustyButTrusty fleet, perhaps. But you just featured an E23, you say… well, from the E12 onwards, things were far more civilized and luxurious, while the E10/Neue Klasse cars are in the vein of earlier BMWs with spartan all-vinyl interiors, four cylinder engines, 4-speed transmissions and drums on the rear wheels. It is hard to believe that you can find an early spartan car for the same price as a 15-year-old with all the luxury gewgaws. Anyway, enough blather – you can find this 1969 1602 with a 2002 engine for $4000 in New Orleans, LA.
