Cheap for an RX-2? 1974 Mazda RX-2

Any European or Japanese car enthusiast should be able to easily appreciate the virtues of the Mazda RX-2. Sharing styling cues with the Fiat 124 coupe and Dino coupe, or with the Opel Manta if that’s your preference, it had the power and smoothness of Mazda’s licensed-from-NSU rotary engine. Further developed at this point, the 12A rotary was starting to show increasing levels of reliability to go with its power, but ultimately didn’t survive in family sedans thanks to the oil crisis, which shone a bright light on its drinking problem. You can find this 1974 Mazda RX-2 sedan for sale for $2750 in Snellville, GA (northeast of Atlanta).

Goat’s Big Brother – 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix

If you like the styling of post-war European cars, you definitely owe it to yourself to take a closer look at American cars of the 1960s. Their simple, clean styling is very mid-century modern, in stark contrast to the garish designs of the 1950s and many of the dated and/or cliched designs of the 1970s. Among the design icons of that period, people might quickly come up with a list including the Lincoln Continental, Buick Riviera, and Oldsmobile Toronado (and get angry with you for leaving out the Mustang and the Impala, which, while successful cars in their own right, were not design icons). In that shortlist, however, they’d be forgetting Pontiac’s Grand Prix, which had equal measures of innovation and style. Rot ist schneller – 1987 BMW 535is

For anyone who grew up in the 1980s, particularly in the coastal states where European cars are more popular, it’s hard to believe that the once-ubiquitous E28 BMW is slowly disappearing from our roads. The occasional beater 528e is still around, and if you’re lucky, you can spot the odd 535is that’s clearly owned by a devoted BMW nut, but finding a 533i or 524td is like finding a needle in a haystack. Futhermore, in a testament to these cars’ durability and lasting appeal, most have well over 200,000 miles on them. So finding one with low miles in decent driver condition is a pleasant surprise.
