You might be asking yourself, why did I come here to view cars from such mundane, mainstream marques as these, when I can see these everywhere? Well, outside of the dry western United States, finding cars like this just parked on the street as people’s daily daily drivers is a lot more unusual. And one of the fun parts of this hobby is finding a new angle of interest in cars you would ordinarily dismiss out-of-hand. For example, check out this 1960s VW Karmann Ghia convertible. It’s had some neat modifications, including Beetle headlights and Porsche 914 wheels. What could be under the hood? Oh right, nothing because it’s a VW! The satin black is a current trend, but ultimately these do look better in gloss colors.

September 20, 2013Saturated – 1985 Merkur XR4Ti
September 20, 2013When you work with creative people, you get an interesting perspective on color, font, spacing, and other design-related characteristics. One interesting little tidbit is that Americans tend to have a preference for photography with more saturated colors – perhaps this dates back to the days of Technicolor movies and pictures? If you’re wondering what the heck this has to do with cars, or what saturated means when it’s not related to fat, take a look at this red 1985 Merkur XR4Ti, with bidding at $2200 and 4 days left to go in Fullerton, CA.
250 Manual, Part 2 – 1969 Mercedes 250
September 19, 2013If you’re intrigued by the idea of a manual shift Mercedes, but can’t afford a pagoda SL and are intimidated by possible repair costs on the car featured before this one, fear not, there are more alternatives. You can have the same powertrain found in those other cars, in a slightly more modern body. This was the last project Paul Bracq completed for Mercedes before moving to design the French TGV train, and then working for BMW and Peugeot, and it maintains the elegant, simple lines seen in his other work. You can find today’s 1969 Mercedes 250 W114 with bidding at $2900 and less than 1 day to go in Newark, NJ.
