Steamy Spittie – 1969 Triumph Spitfire

With all the recent attention given to Alfa, Porsche, and Jaguar sports cars, you’d be excused for forgetting about some of the more accessible British sports cars, like the Triumph Spitfire. With five generations of Spitfire stretching over 18 years, there are plenty of flavors to choose from , starting with the slow and simple Spitfire 4 and finishing with the slow and complicated Spitfire 1500. The Spitfire Mark III is arguably one of the better renditions, retaining the more popular styling of the Mark I-III cars and gaining a proper folding top, a larger 1296cc engine with 8hp more (and presumably a bump in torque), though 7hp of this were lost to emissions regulations by 1969. The instrument panel was no longer center-mounted, moving to a traditional placement in front of the driver. Let’s take a look at this 1969 Triumph Spitfire for sale for $2500 in Yachats, OR.

Flat Black = Profit? – 1973 Datsun 240Z

There are plenty of great classic imported sports cars out there with 4-cylinder engines, but regardless of any power and consumption difference, there’s just something about the feel of a six-cylinder engine, with the minimal filters of sound, smell, and heat that you get in an older car. So that makes it worth taking a look at the Z, with its 151hp/146 lb.-ft. 2.4 liter, most commonly running through a 4-speed manual transmission, and only 2300lb. of weight. However, with that power rating being achieved by some of the better 4-cylinders, like Datsun’s own 2000 Roadster and a European market Alfa Romeo, you’ll find today’s car a more compelling case for the S30 – consider this 1973 Datsun 240Z for sale for $2500 in Newberg, OR.

Kadett-Vette – 1973 Opel GT

Sometimes, the best sports cars are the ones based on pedestrian mechanicals out of a boring old sedan. You get easy access to parts and an engine that was designed to haul around more passengers and body than the sports car ever will, and if you look at some Italians, it’s not always at the expense of a sweet engine. But we’re not looking at Italians today, we’re looking at Germans, and so you’ll have to put up with the underpinnings of the Kadett B, though this is not all bad since that car came with a 1.9 liter engine putting out (by 1973) 83hp and a respectable amount of torque.
