31 Cents per Pound – 1974 Lincoln Continental Town Coupe

June 27, 2014

Even in this era of six figure Porsches, and other once-affordable classics also accelerating in price, you can still find something interesting for a tenth the cost of a new Kia if you know where to look. Granted, that won’t always get you a sports car, and it won’t always get you something for burning through back roads, but it will get you an interesting car that was once the top of a manufacturer’s line. And it doesn’t even have to be from the fully depreciated late 1980s, early 1990s era – you can get a ginuwine, Nixon-era (nearly) car with a lot more style and probably less total cost per mile than the new Kia. You can find this 1974 Lincoln Continental Town Coupe for sale for a mere $1500 in Napa, CA.

FoMoCo Tuesday – 1986 Lincoln Town Car Limousine

February 18, 2014

For a certain segment of the population, this car will induce reactions like “Why in God’s name are you wasting my time with this?”, while others will be reminded of, say, prom, or a ride to the airport. Well, there’s a couple of reasons this car might be interesting, besides nostalgia – attrition makes this a rare vehicle, it appears to be in excellent condition, and holy crap it’s an eighties limo without scary stains or an Aquanet dispenser! Check out this 1986 Lincoln Town Car limousine for sale for $3950 in Kearny Villa, CA.

Square Shouldered – 1964 Lincoln Continental Hardtop Sedan

November 24, 2013

The anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s death comes with a reminder of the car he was riding in – a Lincoln Continental convertible limousine. And in fact, given the weight his death carried for the country, and how this car was so strongly associated with him, it’s surprising Lincoln was able to sell any more. But sell they did, and in fact, sales continued to increase through 1966, and still remained strong through the final year (1969). And that’s probably in no small part due to the inherent quality of the car and its design. Elwood Engle, who later went on to design various Chrysler models, designed one of the finest cars built in America at the time. It was packed with luxury features, came with the first 2 year/24,000 mile warranty, and weighed an outrageous 5,000 lb at its slimmest. This 1964 Lincoln Continental hardtop sedan is for sale in Yuma, AZ, with bidding at $3050, reserve not met, and about 3 days left.
