Moving the Fleet – Rusty But Trusty Relocation

September 17, 2015

After a long period of separation, during which RustyButTrusty’s headquarters and vast team of writers relocated to the lovely Portland, Oregon metro area, the fleet was brought up to its new headquarters. Two good friends with mechanical skill and/or a desire to drive old cars were enlisted. After several months of disuse, the cars were woken from their slumber and forced to make up for missed time. Sadly, there was not enough time to explore west coast back roads, as part of the incentive for driving up in convoy was a visit to the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, OR. So the trip was a simplified version of the 700 mile dash up the interior of California and Oregon. Do you like sweating on hot, vinyl seats because it’s 90 degrees out? Nobody said this lifestyle didn’t involve suffering…

Epilogue – 1977 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT

July 6, 2015

One of the best things about writing up old cars is hearing the occasional follow-up story – the for-sale listing for this Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT is only a small part of the car’s life, so it’s inspiring to hear the stories about what the new owner decides to do with the car (well, inspiring if it goes well for the car & owner!). It’s even better when the new owner writes up the story so everyone else can share in the joy – here it is, in reader Larry L.’s own words:

The car was located in Astoria about two hours from my home in Portland so I decided it was best to trailer it. Very good idea, turns out it was running terribly rich, someone had fooled around with the Spica injection system and had made a complete bodge job of it. They had actually somehow damaged three of the injectors beyond repair. Well four rebuilt injectors and some professional tuning at Nasko’s Imports and it runs quit well. (Nasko’s is a great place for Alfa’s BMW & MINI, Nasko drives a BMW 318ti with a M3 swap!)

Happy Canada Day! – 1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta Sedan

July 1, 2015

Just in time for the last couple of hours of Canada Day, we have a car in Canada that won’t be much of a surprise to frequent readers. However, most practical Alfa Romeos (if there is such a thing) in the snowbelt haven’t survived 35 winters unscathed, which is why it’s a surprise when you find one up there. Of course, thanks to the internet, cars move around a lot more, but usually those are the more popular models like convertibles and coupes. Hopefully someone else in Ontario will be thrilled to find a rare bit of North American Alfa Romeo history – check out this 1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta Sedan for sale for $3500 in Keswick, ON.
