It’s time for a survey of some interesting Fiats available for sale. The first is this 1976 Fiat Spider for sale for $1850 in Long Beach, CA. There’s nothing fun like a classic car with a wacky paint job, and this is a great example. Was the painter going for patriotic Italian-American? Beach umbrella style? Curiously, there are auxiliary lights on the rear fenders, and the top frame needs adjustment or repair. It’s said to run and drive well, but not much more is provided in the way of details. Stripes mean nobody will run into you when you’re waiting for a tow.

October 16, 2015Alfamatic – 1991 Alfa Romeo 164L
October 3, 2015Continuing our search for family-friendly enthusiast cars with an automatic transmission, it didn’t take a lot of looking to find an Alfa 164. Many were sold in the United States, particularly in the coastal cities, and while it’s more of an expert-level car, it’s got the appeal of that amazing Busso six-cylinder, which can’t be stifled by the automatic. In fact, the interesting thing about the automatic on the 164 is it does seem to be set up to hold gears and downshift a bit more than your average automatic of the period. While the Pininfarina design of the 164L is beautiful, the six shiny intake runners are a kind of mechanical beauty you can share with anyone in the family. Just look away long enough for them to roll their eyes at you. Check out this 1991 Alfa Romeo 164L for sale for $2950 in San Mateo, CA.
850 in Drag – 1970 Siata Spring
September 23, 2015Siata’s Spring is kind of an odd duck. Can you imagine the discussions between management and design? “Well, Gianni, Alfa Romeo is doing a Gran Sport Quattroruote Zagato to celebrate their heritage by dropping a miniaturized 6C1750 GS Spider Zagato body on their Giulia platform. And in America, everyone is putting 1940 Ford and Rolls Royce hoods on their VW Beetles. We’re falling behind the market here, so let’s get on with it and throw something together so people know Fiata (?) has still got it!” And thus, the Spring was born – a classic car that does not draw on Siata’s distinguished history (or Fiat’s, or anyone else’s), rather looking like an anonymized picture of a classic car you see in one of those ads for body shops in the phone book. Check out this 1970 Siata Spring for sale for $3900 in San Diego, CA.
