Box Stock – 1986 Honda Civic CRX

September 30, 2013

Considering what a time of uncertainty it was for the automotive industry, the 1980s truly produced some icons. BMW M3, Porsche 944, VW GTI, and many others came from this era. One more icon you can’t forget is the Honda Civic CRX. Originally designed as a commuter car like the Fiero, the CRX quickly started winning admirers due to exactly those things that helped it save fuel – light weight, compact size, high-tech engine, only those people admired it for its performance. If you want to admire one in your driveway, you can pick up this 1986 Honda CRX for $2390 in Yakima, WA, where it’s been for sale for at least a month.

Unbastardized – 1989 Honda Prelude Si 4WS

September 4, 2013

From a car enthusiast’s perspective, the 1970s and 1980s were really some of the best years for Japanese manufacturers. Sure, they came out with some piles, but they were also not afraid to be adventurous. They offered sports coupes like the wedgy Subaru XT of the 1980s, the funky Datsun 200SX of the 1970s, the sharp MR2, and the Corolla came in multiple body styles (coupe, 2-door, 4-door, wagon, etc.). Honda also offered the Prelude coupe in the sporty low-cowl, flip-up light, wedge look of the 1980s. While it’s no surprise to most of you, it’s pretty hard to find an older Honda that hasn’t been dressed up with all the finest accessories AutoZone has to offer. Fortunately, there is one Prelude, in top-level Si trim and with the high-tech four-wheel steering, for $3650 in Sturgeon Bay, WI.

Alfa Romeo Junior Zagato mash-up: 1989 Honda CRX Si and 1978 Alfa Romeo Spider

June 1, 2013

Imagine you always wanted an Alfa Romeo Junior Zagato. And supposing you didn’t have the $25-50,000 to purchase one of those. Supposing you only had $10,000. Well, for a mere $6990, my friend, you too can have both the style and the exotic twincam powertrain of that more expensive car. And what’s more is – get this – you get two whole cars in the deal! Now, you might think I’m suggesting you take the guts from the spider, and put them in the CRX, but that would be crazy. The CRX is a great car in its own right, even if it cribbed its styling from an obscure early 1970s Alfa, and the spider is an underrated classic. The CRX is up in Kent, WA for $3490, and the spider is near LA in Diamond Bar, CA for $3500.
