Mostly RustyButTrusty is not a car show site – there are plenty of other sites where you can find pictures of shiny cars. However, for this case I’ll make an exception, mostly to drive the point home that you can amazingly *still* afford cars related to some of the shiny ones in this post, some of them so closely related that they have nearly the same engine and suspension. A prime example of this is this row of 4 Alfa Romeo Giulietta and Giulia Sprint Speciales – the number 81 car raced at Sebring back in the early 1960s. Not only that, the owner had driven it down from British Columbia with his wife and was doing the high performance driving school, time trials, and the concorso!

July 17, 2013Suckered – 1976 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT (plus bonus ’78!)
July 5, 2013As regular readers know, I am a sucker for a nice Alfetta, or even a not-so-nice Alfetta, which is how I end up spending more on bodywork than I probably should! While they have their issues, which are well-known from when Alfa Romeo was trying to sell these as daily drivers, many of those are significantly diminished by the weekend driver status. When sorted, they are really quite reliable as a fun second car. With that, let’s see today’s example, a 1976 Alfetta GT listed for $1500 in Seward Park, near Seattle, WA.
Trunkless – 1970 Opel GT
May 24, 2013Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve been fascinated with Opels. Maybe it’s because they’re orphans here, maybe it’s because of the curvy lines of the GT and Manta, or maybe it’s because one of my first car rides in Germany was in the back seat of my grandfather’s Opel (probably a Commodore Coupe, although it’s hard for me to say since I was only 5!). Either way, while they’re mainstream cars in Europe, here they are cult favorites, of which the most popular model is the GT. Today’s feature is not so rusty, and probably not so trusty either, but the fun is in getting there, no? It’s a 1970 model here in South Charlotte, NC for $2500.
