Datsun 240Zs are rising in price, so what’s the next step to get similar style for cheap? Well, taking a page from Porsche collectors who have turned from 356s and early 911s to 911SCs and (gasp!) 914s, let’s take a look at later versions of Datsun’s Z. And you don’t eeven have to go that much later – for 1974, Datsun introduced the 260Z. You still get the nice small bumpers, some of the classic lines, and the sound of that straight six. Coke Bottle – 1973 Opel 1900 GT

Inspired by America, designed in Germany, and built in France, this is quite the international car. While they were offered with an 1100 engine in base specification, the Opel GT was most commonly sold with the larger 1900 engine, putting out a respectable 102hp to move roughly 2000 lb. of car. Given its parts commonality with contemporary Opels, and the existence of multiple part suppliers and documented fixes to weak points, this should be a fairly easy-to-own classic sports car. Toyota Coupes #2 – 1979 Toyota Celica GT

What a difference a decade makes! While yesterday’s Corona Mark 2 coupe was very much of the 1960s, with its handsome sloping roofline and polished metal trim, Toyota had moved up in the world towards solidifying its position as one of the world’s major automakers. By 1979, there was a successful line of pickups, along with the Corolla, Corona, and Cressida sedans. The Celica was added in 1971, and in 1978 the second generation A40/A50 Celica was introduced.
