One-Owner French Icon – 1965 Citroen 2CV

February 2, 2016

If you ask someone to name a French car, Citroen probably won’t be the first name they’d come up – Renault and Peugeot were in the North American market much more recently, and it seems the stories about them were more appalling. But Citroen really epitomizes the French approach to building (most) cars – an unusual combination of great comfort and handling, not much of a focus on the engine, and distinctive designs. They’re not always beautiful in a traditional sense, but those are beautiful in their engineering aesthetic. And among Citroens, the 2CV is the purest expression of the French car design ethos – both innovative in its abilities, and accessible to a very wide audience. Check out this 1965 Citroen 2CV for sale for $3900 in Portland, OR.

Ragtop Two-Door – 1979 Renault LeCar

November 15, 2015

Economy cars are, for the most part, soulless and boring, but every so often some fun manages to sneak its way into one. Depending on your perspective, the Renault LeCar was in the soulless category, but perhaps you’ve forgotten the spare mounted over the engine, the tremendous amount of interior room for its size, the spartan gauge pod and switch panel for a dashboard, or the optional ragtop. So if you’re willing to reconsider your point of view in light of those facts, check out this 1979 Renault LeCar for sale for $4000 in Eugene, OR.

RustyButTrusty on the Street – Honolulu Edition

October 17, 2015

A short trip to Hawaii yielded a couple of interesting finds. Evidently, the climate and distance from the mainland does not get in every enthusiast’s way of enjoying older cars. Beyond what’s captured below, some older American cars, a pair of Pinzgauers, a beater Beetle convertible and a mid-1970s Porsche 911S in running but rusty condition were pleasant surprises among all the rental Jeeps. The first find was this unusual pair – a Nash Metropolitan which was promoting a business next to a Subaru Loyale. The Subaru must have been a recent arrival from the mainland since it was in immaculate shape.
