Primary Colors – 1968 Fiat 850 Spider and 1970 850 Spider Pair

February 16, 2016

For a fairly rare and rust-prone car, there are quite a few Fiat 850 spiders in decent shape available on the American west coast right now. The idea of a lightweight, tiny little open top car is appealing, and if you want one that begs you to go faster, you’ll want to pick the Fiat 850 over some of the British competition. One could also argue they’re a cost-effective alternative to the Honda S600/S800, though their soundtrack won’t be quite as exciting. For our first four-wheeled alternative to a Vespa (well, outside of a Vespacar), let’s check out this 1968 Fiat 850 Spider for sale for $2500 in Eau Claire, WI.

Better E12 – 1977 BMW 530i

February 15, 2016

There are certainly many popular models of BMW among lovers of older cars – the 2002, E9 coupes, and E28 5-series for starters. What’s funny is, quite a few of the BMWs of the late 1970s to early 1980s cars have yet to find a true cult following in the way some of these cars have, or even some of the less-popular models like the E9 sedans. For North American enthusiasts, some of those issues are rooted in the reactions to emissions and safety regulations in that period, so everything from 1974 onwards got mega-bumpers to take out pedestrians at the knees, as well as a not-so-cool device with an awesome sounding name – thermal reactors. On top of that, NA-market cars lost power to run cleaner. With that in mind, let’s take a look at this 1977 BMW 530i for sale for $3000 in West Eaton, PA.

Half a 928 is not a 914 – 1984 Porsche 944

February 13, 2016

With the 1980s moving ever further into history, it’s a good time to recognize a car from 1984 now fits what was recently the definition of a modern classic – 30ish years old now applies to many popular cars from that decade. Nonetheless, it’s hard to argue that many 1980s cars have a vintage feel, perhaps because they’d already moved on from carburetors, leaf springs, and other things we left behind in that decade. So it’s hard to understand why classic car events don’t seem to embrace the newer cars – you can’t run many of the vintage car rallies in a 944, for example, even though you could have done so with a 32-year-old Porsche 914 back in 2006. The counterpoint is that these modern classics still function pretty well as daily drivers, so part of the reason is many enthusiasts just don’t need a classic car event as an excuse to bring their classic out. With that in mind, let’s check out this 1984 Porsche 944 for sale for the very odd price of $3672 in Estacada, OR.
