The Honda Prelude started out as a coupe derivative of the Accord, as part of the launch of the Honda Verno distribution channel in Japan. The first-generation Prelude was nicknamed the Quaalude, and Honda must have taken this to heart, as the redesigned 1983 Prelude traded funky, blocky styling for sleek looks with flip-up headlights and the trademark low hood and cowl. An overhead cam engine with 3 valves per cylinder was also advanced for the mid-1980s, as were the graphic equalizer stereo and orange typeface on all gauges and switches. May 20, 2014Rare Fare – 1972 Fiat 124 Coupe BC
May 8, 2014Among truly affordable cars that can cause weakness in the knees, and silly thoughts of selling a minor organ (maybe a gall bladder), the Fiat 124 coupe ranks pretty high. In its favor are rarity, style, that sweet twincam, and the fact it shares many parts with a very ubiquitous platform. If you can throw a virtual rock without hitting an online listing or resource for Fiat 124s, you’re using the wrong internet. A good 124 coupe can be every bit the equivalent of a BMW 2002, Datsun 510, or Alfa Romeo GTV, although the interior bits are a little more likely to fall off. Some survived the odds, though – check out this 1972 Fiat 124 Coupe for sale for $3800 in Natick, MA.
Audi GT Junior – 1985 Audi GT
May 6, 2014Audi wanted a more accessible version of their ground-breaking Quattro, so much like Alfa Romeo with the GTA, they de-flared and re-engined the famous coupe to make it more accessible to regular consumers. Offered in various versions, buyers could still have the 5-cylinder engine and/or all-wheel-drive, but not the iconic fender flares or the turbo. In late 1984, a facelifted model was introduced, with one-piece flush headlights, updated grill, wraparound front bumper with flush fog and turn/running lights, and rear Quattro-style spoiler. In this case, the later car’s styling is more appealing – you can find this 1985 Audi GT for sale for $4400 in Downey, CA.
