Nice Upgrades – 1987 Audi 4000 Quattro

July 15, 2016

Do you fall into the category of people known as “anyone”? Or are you someone, or everyone? Because if you’re “anyone”, move along, buddy, this car’s not available to you. There are many online listings with sellers who try to limit who they will sell their car to, but unless the purchase decision is based on impulse, someone who falls in love with their expectation of what the car will be would be hard to eliminate. And if they’re truly intent on gutting the car for parts for their own project, they can make something up to soothe the worried seller. That said, it’s understandable why a seller would be concerned about the fate of a car they like – check out this 1987 Audi 4000 Quattro for sale for $4000 in Milwaukie, OR.

Before B4 – 1990 Audi 90 Quattro 20v

June 1, 2016

For their third generation of compact sedans, Audi moved away from VW and put the typ 89/8A on its own platform. And for the first time, Audi had a world wide naming convvention – no more Fox or 4000 (what about those names was any better than a 2-digit number, anyway?). While the previous generation B2 cars were said to target BMW and Mercedes, Audi took things a lot further in this generation, offering something more than an upgraded VW. Starting in 1989, you could get your Audi 90 with a 20v 2.3-liter inline 5-cylinder engine and quattro, continuing Audi’s indecisiveness – 4 was not good enough, while 6 was just too bourgeois – but also giving drivers a direct connection to Audi’s successful rally heritage. Not many were sold in North America, and even fewer survive 26 years on, but one of the survivors is this 1990 Audi 90 Quattro 20v for sale for $2999 (was $3000 too much?) in Lynnwood, WA.

Rare Bird – 1985 Audi 5000S Turbodiesel

November 26, 2015

Everyone has their list of turkeys for Thanksgiving, and since joining the mainstream is the goal here at RustyButTrusty, here’s an unusual turkey for the holiday. Until the recent comeback of diesel in North America (however long it may last at this point) you really needed to have a manual with a diesel engine, or you could literally be out-accelerated by a one legged man pedaling a bicycle. So let’s ask ourselves why, in 1985, someone decided to buy this 1985 Audi 5000S Turbodiesel , for sale for $950 in Portland, OR.
