RustyButTrusty On The Street – Volvo, Ferrari, and Cadillac Hearse

September 22, 2013

Sometimes it’s amazing how many old cars a couple block radius can contain. On a recent drive, there were three interesting vintage cars, and this is not to mention the passing Datsun Fairlady roadster or the pre-GM Saab 900 convertible. The first car was a Volvo 122 2-door sedan. Fitted with slotted alloys in the 1970s, along with some little hoods over the headlights as you commonly see on VW Beetles, and some period foglights mounted in a strangely high position, this looks like a gently aged car that’s still working for a living.

And one of the fun parts of this hobby is finding a new angle of interest in cars you would ordinarily dismiss out-of-hand. For example, check out this 1960s VW Karmann Ghia convertible. It’s had some neat modifications, including Beetle headlights and Porsche 914 wheels. What could be under the hood? Oh right, nothing because it’s a VW! The satin black is a current trend, but ultimately these do look better in gloss colors.

$0.98/lb – 1967 Chrysler Newport

September 14, 2013

The other side of the grass is sometimes greener, and in this case, the green-ness refers to relatively simple construction and ready availability of parts. If you’ve ever owned an oddball foreign car, you know the feeling of going to the regular car parts store and having them ask, who makes that? Is that the V6? Anyhow, that general line of thinking leads to today’s feature car, a 1967 Chrysler Newport hardtop sedan for $3900 in Sterling Heights, MI, near Detroit.
