This past weekend, Cal Worthington died at age 92. Now that dealerships are all owned (for better or worse) by faceless companies like Carmax, it seems fitting to memorialize the man (and his “dog” Spot) with a car that might have been sold by him. It’s a 1969 Ford Fairlane GT in Port Hueneme, CA for $3800.

September 11, 20131968 VW Beetle
September 11, 2013After a college road trip from Dijon to Macon, France to visit a friend on one of those grey European days in a yellow-on-white two-tone Beetle, seeing one of these has always brought back memories of that short trip. The VW microbus feature reminded me of my desire to feature a Beetle, preferably with some sporting modifications, and just as with the buses, these are pretty thin on the ground. However, a decent looking Beetle, coincidentally in this yellow-on-white color scheme, is available for $2800 in San Bernardino, CA.
Last off the Line – 1971 VW Bay Window Bus
September 10, 2013Last night, I stumbled on an article saying that VW Type 2 production, which ended in 1979 in Germany and 1994 in Mexico, is finally being halted in Brazil after 56 total years of production (!!). This will have made it the longest running production model in automotive history. Up to 78hp from the original 28, and with various modernizing touches, you still can’t escape the look and feel of the old bus everyone is used to seeing. Brazilian production is being phased out due to new safety regulations, but that won’t keep VW from charging $35,000 for the last 600 built. Nevermind that kind of nonsense, we can find you one for a tenth of the price, with this 1971 bay window bus in Joplin, MS for $3800.
