Fair, Fat, and Wide – 1979 AMC Pacer DL Wagon

February 26, 2014

Everyone who grew up in the 1980s has at one time or another mocked the AMC Pacer, when they were just weird old used cars. Ignoring the ordinary old-tech engine, the AMC Pacer was a very innovative car when it was introduced. The fishbowl design allowed for great visibility, a perimeter frame and built-in rollover bar, along with a longer passenger door for ease of access, allowed for improved safety. It was equipped with rack and pinion steering and the engine and front suspension rode on a separate subframe, isolated by rubber bushings. The original plan was also to include a rotary engine, so the ancient engine was actually simply AMC’s Plan B. You can find this 1979 AMC Pacer DL wagon for sale for $3200 in Redmond, OR.

One-Grand Dubs – 1980 VW Rabbit Pickup and 1988 VW Quantum Syncro Wagon

February 4, 2014

Two grand too much for your collector car? Well, that’s where VW comes in – it’s the car for Volks like you. Once you get this close to the 3-digit range, things start getting a little doubtful. You start forgoing some systems you’d normally expect to work, or being much more accepting of cosmetic issues. And really, who needs a heater, or electric windows that go up *and* down? Just make sure to steam clean the interior if there are any suspicious smells or spots! First up is this 1980 VW Rabbit Pickup for sale for $1000 in Puyallup, WA.

Wagon Friday – 1967 Chevrolet Caprice Wagon

January 17, 2014

While the Plymouth Satellite certainly was an interesting vehicle, and has some good nostalgic value, it could never be described as beautiful, or even really attractive. Such is not the case with Chevrolet and its full-size Impala line – they were quite attractive, and in 1967, while they lost the cool triple-round tail lights on either side, they gained enhanced Coke-bottle styling inspired by the Corvette. They also received a gaggle of safety improvements, courtesy of the US government. While wagons have risen to prominence as collector cars, what with boomers and Gen Xers growing to an age where they are having nostalgia for the cars of their childhoods, there are still quite a few affordable options, such as this 1967 Chevrolet Caprice wagon, for sale in Van Nuys, CA with bidding at $200 and 2 weeks left to go.
